How to Record Your Engine Video Properly

Follow these simple steps to ensure a clear and effective video recording of your vehicle's engine problem. A good recording is crucial for an accurate diagnosis.

⚠️ Important Warnings ⚠️

  • A running combustion engine has hot and moving parts that can cause severe injury.
  • Do not touch anything!
  • Make sure any long hair and loose clothing is well secured and cannot accidentally touch moving parts of the engine.
  • Hold your phone firmly with both hands without covering microphone holes or the camera. Dropping your phone into the engine might destroy your phone and the engine.

1. Prepare Your Vehicle

  • Ensure your vehicle is on a level surface and the engine is cold (hasn't run recently).
  • Find a quiet environment to minimize background noise.

2. Recording

  • Use your phone's back camera for the best quality. Set the video resolution to 720p or use our built-in recording feature to limit file size.
  • Ask someone to sit in the driver's seat and start the engine while you film or use a tripod to hold the camera.
  • Begin recording with the engine off.
  • Start the engine and let it idle.
  • After 5 secods, slowly move the camera in a half circle from the left to the right side of the engine. Make sure the camera is close and always pointing at the engine.
  • The video should be 40-60 seconds long.
